Raising Awareness for Minority Mental Health Month

Getting access to mental health treatment is detrimental to having a healthier, happier life. Anyone can be affected by mental health conditions – regardless of their race, color, gender or identity. However, this doesn’t mean that everyone has easy access to mental health care. Background and identity can often make it difficult to receive mental health treatment.

In 2008, July was established as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month to help combat the challenges minorities may face when trying to access mental healthcare. To help spread awareness, this year NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is focusing on the message of “You Are Not Alone”. Throughout July, they will be featuring personal stories along with social media posts and blogs that focus on how culture impacts mental health. To learn more visit nami.org

We encourage everyone to help spread awareness for this issue by sharing the messages from NAMI or by sharing your own story with someone to let them know they’re not alone. Together we can face these challenges and overcome them so that everyone, regardless of their background, can have easier access to metal health treatments.
